QTVR Cubic Panoramas |
QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) cubic projections or panoramas can provide a more realistic experience. In that they provide a truly complete ‘wrap-around’ world. The idea of these is that you are in the middle of a cube – you can look 90° up or down in addition to the side to side capabilities of cylindrical movies. It is, however, more difficult/time consuming to get the visual data to complete such a scene – as you need to photograph/render every possible angle. Here's an example.
As is quite obvious, this was created using a 3D landscape tool (called Bryce). Creating cubic QTVR's is relatively easy when you are using a 3D rendering tool, as you have full and precise control over the camera, and can produce 6 easy renders to create a cube. A tool such as GoCubic can then be used to stitch the images together to produce the QTVR movie. |
