Java based panoramas

An alternative to using QTVR technology is through the use of a Java applet (such as the Panotools Viewer). This emulates the cylindrical or cubic methods, as used by QTVR, but does not require QuickTime to be installed – requiring, instead, Java technology to be installed on the end-users machine. If you have Java installed/enabled you will be able to see an example below:

Helmut Dersch's PT Viewer java viewer is probably the most feature rich and versatile viewer available, and it is free (GNU licence).

Controls:

  • Click and move the mouse to pan and tilt
  • While panning, use control and shift keys to zoom in and out.
  • Alternatively, use the arrow keys for panning and tilting in fixed increments.
  • Use + and -, or > and < keys to zoom in fixed increments.
  • Press the space bar to make hotspots visible; repress to hide them again
  • While over hotspot, click the mouse or press enter to jump to link.
