VR Panoramas > Sound

Directional Sound

Sound can also play a part in creating immersion in a virtual world. You can:

  • Create directional sound effects tied in to the pan angle of the panorama
  • Generate sound effects upon hotspot rollover or click
  • Have background sound effects, adding to the atmosphere

All of these can greatly enhance the immersion in a world.

One way of adding directional sound to a QTVR track is to use an application such as "SoundSaVR". This is a cheap program, which allows you to add sound to singlenode and multinode QTVR panorama movies. You could, for example, import sampled music, voice-overs, sound effects, MIDI tracks, or any audio file format supported by QuickTime.

The program allow each node to be optionally set to auto play and sounds can be continuously looped, or looped with random length delays. Additionally, several options are available for internet streaming, for people with less bandwidth

Another option is to use Macromedia Director.

Here we briefly show you one way of doing this using that tool.
