How Many Photographs Should I Take? |
This depends on the lens of your camera. Using a 35mm lens usually means you’ll need about 18 images to capture 360° with 50% overlap on each image. Naturally, you’d require fewer images with a wider-angle lens such as 20mm, and a larger number of images with a narrower angle lens such as 55mm. Remember, shoot the images vertically!
It’s a good idea to take an extra photo at the end of the shoot – effectively the same one you started with. This will help line up the panorama at each end if something went wrong with the first picture. Finally, make sure you signify where each panorama shoot starts and finishes. A good idea is to place your hand over (but not touching!) the lens to obscure it, and take an ‘empty’ photo after the last photo of each panorama. This makes it much easier to tell where one shoot begins and another ends… you’ll thank yourself for it! That’s enough fresh air! Now you’re ready for stitching the images, so back to the computer we go! |
